Source Material

Required files and assets from the client:

  • Canva design files: Canva design links or exported design files (.PDF, .PNG, .JPG) with access to editable Canva projects
  • Canva account access: Editor access to Canva projects or exported design files for localization
  • Editable graphics: Source files (.PSD, .AI, .SVG) for graphics containing text or requiring localization, if available separately
  • Fonts: Information about fonts used in designs, especially custom fonts, or font access
  • Brand assets: Brand colors, logos, and style guidelines for maintaining visual consistency
  • Reference materials: Style guides, glossaries, terminology databases, and previous translations
  • Graphics inventory: List of graphics that need localization vs. those that are universal
  • Screenshots: Replacement images if screenshots need updating

Best Practices

  • Use Canva's text editing: Leverage Canva's built-in text editing features for efficient text updates
  • Maintain design consistency: Preserve original design aesthetics, colors, and layout while updating text
  • Handle text boxes individually: Update each text box separately, ensuring proper formatting and alignment
  • Test text expansion: Account for text expansion and adjust text box sizes or font sizes as needed
  • Update graphics separately: For graphics with text, export, localize, and re-import or replace in Canva
  • Preserve design elements: Maintain spacing, alignment, and visual hierarchy when updating text
  • Use Canva templates: If using Canva templates, ensure they support target language fonts and characters
  • Check font compatibility: Verify that fonts used support target language characters; replace if necessary
  • Maintain brand guidelines: Follow brand colors, fonts, and style guidelines throughout localization

Things to Consider

  • Text expansion: Canva designs may need text box resizing or font adjustments for text expansion in target languages
  • BIDI languages: Right-to-left languages require text direction changes and layout adjustments
  • Graphics with text: Graphics containing text require separate localization workflow; may need recreation if uneditable
  • Font limitations: Canva's font library may have limitations for some languages; custom fonts may be needed
  • Design constraints: Fixed design layouts may limit flexibility for text expansion; some redesign may be necessary
  • Template compatibility: Some Canva templates may not work well with certain languages or text lengths
  • Export quality: Consider export format and resolution requirements for final deliverables
  • Collaboration access: Ensure proper Canva account access and permissions for localization work
  • Version control: Maintain version control when multiple designers work on the same project
